Documents Required:

A completed application form (obtained and filled in at the High Commission), duly filled and signed by the applicant or by the legal guardian for minors;

Two (2) passport size photos taken agaisnt a white background, ears and forehead visible, no visible piercings, with no eyeglasses;

Copy of Marriage Certificate or Divorce Judgement (Decree Absolute), for married women, if the application is being made in their married name;

Those born in Lesotho must acquire birth certificate at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Lesotho.

Those born abroad must first apply and obtain a birth certificate in their country of birth;

Book an appointment through the Lesotho High Commission website , whereby you may submit your documents in person at the High Commission for biometric capture;

Your current, accessible email address and a contact telephone number. (These are necessary for the High Commission Consular department to be able to reach you in case of arising queries in your application).

Processing Jurisdiction.

Applications will be delivered to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs In Lesotho within thirty (30) working days. We shall, therefore, not be able to advise you regarding your Passports issue status within the first thirty (30) days after submission of your application. We, however, expect to deliver your Passport within the two (2) months of your application submission.

Parents to attend with minor, and bring valid government national identity (ID) card. If mother is married, the Marriage Certificate is required;

Basotho parents or Guardians’ passports & National ID cards. ;

(National Identification Card (NID)

Passport and ID card applications must be made in person (for identification and fingerprints). The High Commission of the Kingdom of Lesotho in the UK is the only place where you can apply for a National Identification card.

To be issued a temporary travel document the applicant must:

  • Submit duly completed relevant ETD application form (to be obtained from the Consular office at the High Commission);
  • Copy of your birth certificate;
  • Two (2) passport photos taken in the recent 6 months (taken on white background, ears and forehead visible, no visible piercings, no sunglasses or spectacles);
  • Your parents’ ID and passport copies

REPLACEMENT APPLICATION fOr:

(Lost, Stolen, Damaged Passport or National ID Card)

Documentation Requirements

  • All new passport application requirements as set out above must be met;
  • Copy of passport (where applicable) and National Identity (ID) Card;
  • Lost property form issued by your local police station;
  • Affidavit explaining circumstances for loss;

APPLICATION fOr:

(mergency Travel Document (EDT)

Emergency Travel Documents are issued for the sole purpose of enabling citizens to return to the Kingdom of Lesotho. The document is valid for five (5) months from the date of issue.

The High Commission of the Kingdom issues emergency travel document (ETD) to the citizens for a single journey back to Lesotho including any intermediate stops, exclusively under the following situations for nationals:

  • whose original passport is lost/damaged/stolen;
  • whose original passport has expired;
  • who wish to return to the Kingdom of Lesotho but were born abroad and never had a Lesotho passport or an official travel document in the first instance.

It’s used only once. The holder of ETD must hand it over to the representative Immigration border authorities in Lesotho upon arrival.


important notice:

By reporting the loss of a passport to the High Commission of the Kingdom of Lesotho, your passport shall immediately be declared null and void, significantly reducing the chances of its misuse.

The application Process

To be issued a temporary travel document the applicant must:

  • Submit duly completed relevant ETD application form (to be obtained from the Consular office at the High Commission);
  • For lost passport: submit copy of your previous passport (where applicable);
  • Submit the official police report to the Diplomatic Mission and sign the relevant Sworn Statement in front of a Consular Officer;
  • For expired passport: submit both copies of the expired passport AND your National Identification Card, for purposes of validating the applicant’s citizenship status and identification;
  • For Lesotho nationals, born abroad who never had Lesotho official identification travel documents in the first instance: must submit their relevant birth certificate issued by authorities of their country of birth;
  • If the applicant is a minor under 16 years of age, following documents are additionally required.
  • Parents/Guardians Consent Letter (appropriate consent letter format can be obtained at the Consular Office at the High Commission);
  • copies of parents/guardians’ current passports and ID cards;
  • copies of parents/guardians’ marriage certificate.
  • Pay the relevant consular fees. (Fees for this service shall be provided at the High Commission);

An ETD is valid for 5 days and is the property of the Government of Lesotho

MINORS: (below 16years of age):

  • Birth certificate copy.
  • Letter of consent from parents/guardians (sample shall be provided at the High Commission).
  • ID/Passport copies of parents or guardians.
